Sweet Pea's New Home
OK....so our hamster finally chewed a part of his cage beyond repair. He has been working very hard on this. Mostly at night. He got out @ 10 PM and our cat Ivan found him. The cat was very interested, but only had time to get the hamster cornered behind the TV before I swooped in and picked up Sweet Pea. I have several fish tanks that I have kept to keep critters in. I switched Sweet Pea into the middle sized tank that is @ 30" long. He spent the rest of the night making lots of noise trying to get out. Now I just need Phillip to help me make a lid for the largest tank and that will be his permanent home from now on.

We had such a good time in Michigan. The days were cool in the mid 70's most of the time. We were a bit cool, but quickly acclimated to the weather with a happy heart. So nice to get away from the three h's.(hazy,hot,humid!!!LOL!) It takes about 16 hours driving to get to the house. Whew! We had a couple days to rest then took off the Northern part of the start. Our first stop was Mackinac Island(pronounced Mackinaw) We took a boat ride over to the island. No cars are allowed and it is mostly horses and bikes. We walked. There is a very expensive hotel, The Grand Hotel) that Andrew is going to take us all to when he becomes famous and rich. Ha ha!! Lots of fun houses to see. We purchased fudge since apparently that is what you do there. They call everyone that does not live there Fudgies since we buy the wonderful fudge.
The next day we got up and went to the UP.(Upper Peninsula) Phillip and I attempted to see Pictured Rocks 16 years ago and the weather was too rough on Lake Superior. They turned the boat around. We go to see it this time and it was beautiful. You could almost touch the cliff and the water was crystal clear.
The day after that we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Kind of like Kitty Hawk, but it was larger. I'm a little afraid of heights so the drop off really bothered me. I'll have to look up how far down it was. We left there and went back to Glocca Morra. Yes, the house has a name. It now belongs to my sister-in law, but it is one of the houses she grew up in.
We hung out for several days trying to get tasks done around the house. On Sunday(8/10) we went to the cottage on Lake Michigan. Maura's(sister-in-law) brother Danny allowed us to stay there for several days. It is in Pentwater and is very cool. There is running water and electric. No heat, but there is a fireplace and no air since they don't need it. You look out the front windows and see the lake. Very nice. Phillip offered the boys $1 to get completely in the water Sunday evening and they took him up on it. The water temp was about 56 degrees!!!!BBBRRRRR! The boys and I got in the next day and made a castle. The next day we went the inlet where the water was shallow and warm. Lots of fun making a dam and watching the erosion it caused. It is an area that changes frequently anyway because of the winter storms. We did go into the town a couple of times to get a t-shirt and sarsaparilla. After doing laundry and cleaning the cottage we went back to Glocca Morra.
Went spent the end of our trip trying to get more tasks done around the house. I reattached a soffit, replaced a glass in the greenhouse, painted siding, and trimmed weeds. I managed to cut my finger open(while replacing the glass)before I started using gloves. Smart! Thought I was going to have to get stitches, but managed to stop the bleeding. My finger tip is still a bit numb and it is right where I rest my pencil/pen to write.
Our trip back was uneventful, but long. Saw a bunch of deer once we got back to Virginia. Let me mention that there were deer around the Glocca Morra house as well as rabbits and snakes. I saw at least 3 different types of snakes in the greenery around the house. They were very afraid of us and most of the time you had to really try to get a look at them.
We are now on our second full day back and trying to get back to a routine. Going to the pool is a must since we are down to the last two weeks. We will try and go every day until Labor Day. Andrew is going to be an Olympic diver now that he has gotten over his fear and watched the Olympics. Daniel might do that or swim for the USA. he has not decided. LOL!! Well off to the pool.
